NBFRR At-Home Participants Reminded to Stay Off the Course

Falmouth, MA (August 12, 2020) – On the third Sunday in August, there are usually 12,800 runners making their way from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights as they compete in the New Balance Falmouth Road Race.

This year, however, participants in the At-Home Edition are being asked NOT to run their virtual race on the course.

“We’re thrilled and honored that almost 10,000 runners have registered to run in the At-Home Edition,” said Scott Ghelfi, president of the Falmouth Road Race, Inc., board of directors. “It just shows how many people love this race. But we remind everyone that, for safety  reasons, they should not do any part of their 7 miles on the course itself. Let’s save that for next year, when hopefully we’ll be out there together again.”

Edward Dunne, Falmouth police chief, echoed the request in a video to runners. “We need your help to follow the Road Race guidelines and run it At Home, not on the Road Race course,” he said.

The 48th running of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race will be celebrated as a virtual event beginning August 15 – on what would have been the birthday of late founder Tommy Leonard – and concluding on August 29, with runners covering 7 miles in their own neighborhoods any time in that period.
