Falmouth’s Iconic Fall Race Shines in 45th Edition

FALMOUTH, Mass. – On a brisk fall morning, 1,232 runners toed the starting line in Woods Hole for the 45th running of the Shipwrecked Falmouth in the Fall. The late-season tradition once again energized the Cape Cod shoreline as participants from across New England and beyond took on the scenic seven-mile seaside course.

Organized by Falmouth Road Race, Inc., race day brought strong community engagement, top athletic performances, and the signature post‐race festivities that continue to define this iconic late-season event. 

Runners and spectators alike enjoyed perfect fall weather: crisp air, clear skies, and the coastal backdrop of Cape Cod providing memorable views.

Just about 41 minutes after the race began, Ben Wright of Exeter, N.H. crossed the finish line first in 40:50, averaging an impressive 5:50 per mile. Running nearly solo for much of the race, Wright broke away early to secure the overall win.

Approximately 90 seconds later, Anika Atkinson of Mashpee, Mass. claimed the title of top female finisher and second overall, clocking 42:35 in a dominant performance.

To round out the top finishers, Vincent Diperna of Arlington, Va. finished second in 43:40, just 7 seconds ahead of 3rd place finisher Thomas Steele of Buzzards Bay, Mass. On the women’s side, Clare Hall of North Falmouth, Mass. crossed the finish second in 44:44, followed by Margaret MacIlvain of Wayland, Mass. in 46:43.

Following the race, runners and supporters gathered at Shipwrecked Restaurant for the beloved Post-Race Party, featuring complimentary chowder, apple-cider donuts, beer garden, music from DJ Gonz, and the Patriots game on the big screen.

Organizers are already looking ahead to the next edition of the event. Registration for the 2026 Shipwrecked Falmouth in the Fall is expected to open in September 2026, with spots anticipated to fill quickly. Participants are encouraged to register early and stay tuned for updates on runner registration, volunteer opportunities, and expanded post-race festivities.
